Whilst completing our music video, we went through several difficulties, especially the lip syncing and getting that as perfect as I could, especially with such a fast-paced song. I feel I have learnt much from this process, especially about editing, camera-positioning, lip-syncing, lighting and sound.
The editing was a challenge, as the song is very fast-paced,which proved to be a hard task, getting the cuts to the right length, as well as making them fit the song in terms of lyrics and lip-syncing. In parts of the video, it is still not perfect, but I feel that I have gained quite a bit of knowledge and experience from this preliminary task. The lighting in the video, we experimented with, using the gold and silver reflectors for the characters. We also had large lights outside, behind the camera to illuminate the character.
Also, to show the difference between the characters, I thought that it would be good to show that physically, as I would be playing both parts. I used a tie and a trilby to show the male singer, showing the 40's/50's origins of the song with what I was wearing. Also, within the video, by throwing the hat and using editing to make it look like the other character caught it, I thought it would also be a nice nod to the era, the song and I thought it would look quite good on the completed video. The music did also influence the way that I acted during the shooting, and we also tried to make the movements fit the lyrics.
We could have used more close-up shots during the video, as our video does not have many of them and the character does seem quite far away from the camera. I feel that a variety of shots would improve the video greatly. We also used an different angle for the clear distinction between the male and female singers.
