Planning & Research - Stop Motion

Someone That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra)

Our teacher showed us this during a lesson, showing us the use of stop-motion in a music video and wondering whether any of our group wanted to use stop-motion within our own work. Doing something on the scale of the music video he showed us would be very, very difficult and very time consuming. Because of this, if I do choose to do stop-motion, I have to take into account the amount of time it will take and time management as I do not want it to be the cause of why I haven't met a deadline.

Ideas My original idea was very much like the music video itself. It would have lines and colours moving and slowly forming, but I decided that this would be too much like the video itself and would not be original enough. I need some more melancholy for the song, as it is very slow-paced and emotional. The narrative of my music video is the break-up of a couple. So, I decided to do something to show that.

Other Ideas

For the first part, I wanted to show several plants growing. They are being drawn on a piece of paper. I am not sure whether to have colour on it or to just keep it pencil-drawn, as that would be easier. No colour would also go with the song.

Then, a small drop would appear from one of the vines. It would drop from the vine. It would then appear on a fresh page and splash. I am not sure whether to make the drop blue, like water, red or black. I think that black would work well, especially with the song. I think red wouldn't be good for the video and a bit much, so black or blue would be the safe options.

Then, after the splash, the piece of paper is seen upon a worktop, with a hand near it.

It shows the vine picture again. The hand goes from the right hand corner to the bottom left hand corner and slowly the picture turns black.

I want the same to happen for the next sequence, as when the hand moves back, but this time when it moves from left to right, the page becomes cut away, until nothing is left.

Then, the hand opens up and inside the palm is a small black heart made out of the paper that was shown earlier to be blackened. I think this would go well with my music video and it can relate to the song well.
