Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The main conventions of real music videos are typically, about the camerawork within the video and the meanings behind the different shots, as well as the editing stages of the music video and the different effects that have been placed on the footage. Also, about presenting the star and the 'star image' in the music video, which is connected to the theorist Richard Dyer and his views on the 'star image' within media products.
My media product uses the conventions of other media products such as fast cuts, focusing on the star during the video.
My media product uses the conventions of other media products such as fast cuts, focusing on the star during the video.
Then the heart turning different colours and forming, seems to challenge the conventions. Even though stop-motion has been used in a variety of different music videos by different artists, it does not seem a to be a popular trend throughout most conventional music videos. Nonetheless, from my audience feedback, the convention was well received and the audience really liked the effect it had, working well with the other effects I had used on the music video, especially the contrast of colour, along with black and white.
However, my use of stop-motion within the video seems to challenge 'normal' conventions of music videos, as even though I have followed the normal conventions in my media product, the stop-motion effect of the plant and the heart seem to defy this.
