Planning & Research - Digipak Analysis

Digipak for Muse: Absolution

- The digipak has one constant theme, of this white fire-like, vapour image which goes appears on every panel. This could relate the their music, as it is in the style of rock/pop and the fire could symbolise the vibrancy of the music that could possibly be what impression the band is trying to give.

- The colours contrast with each other very well and give a good effect.

- To back up Dyer's theories on the star image as one of the band is on one of the panels, rather than it just showing the intense fire-like theme, giving the digipak more focus by the audience.

- The digipak also has a very modern feel to it and is quite stylish, contrasting and slightly ethereal.

- The digipak also has some imagery, especially religious, as the name absolution means to be forgiven, especially from sins. The dark and light contrast against each other and make a variety of colours, and it looks quite wispy which could symbolise many things from religion.

- The text used in the digipak is very modern and the track list is shown in it, the text in block capitals, very bold and looks ordered and structured, contrasting to the pictures used for the digipak.

- The layout of the digipak has the CD in the centre, and the track list on the back, within the centre. The artist is inside the digipak.

- The instrument used by the artist on the digipak is an electric guitar, showing the style of the band and its music. The guitar is also being held in such a way that suggests that music is being played in a rock style.

- The size of the font and the title is very small in comparison the size of the front of the digipak, and more focus seemed to be on the background art. However, the title and track list is in white against a navy colour, so they contrast, showing clearly that the digipak is by Muse.
