Director: Syndrome
The director, Syndrome, is a live-action studio which is based in Los Angeles and the puppets were produced by the studio Puppet Heap.
The music video features the band members imprisoned in a jail below an arena, which stuffed toys/puppets are made to fight to the death. The result of this is quite comic, adding a strange and unique effect to a music video. The video also features actors Lou Diamond Phillips and Alexandra Daddario, who is the girl at the start of the music video with the covered cage.
By this, the video already has a star image, other than the band itself. Again, the video has close-ups towards the stars of the band and other stars who have appeared in the music video, showing Dyer's theory on star image, and how the stars need several media devices such as the internet and television in order to promote their image.
The puppets give a strange sense to the video whilst still keeping the energy of it and making it for the audience, an enjoyable video.
The locations are varied, with a prison, an arena and a field. There is a variation with colour, unlike the 'Stay' music video by Hurts and the 'Cosmic Love' music video by Florence and the Machine, as both had a variation of colour. The Hurts music video was more monochrome and the Florence and the Machine music video was more colourful, using a variety of lighting techniques and effects.
The use of the drum within the video, also creates a bigger difference, as the performance and the music video has more energy, which is something I should consider when making my own music video.
